Originally conceived as just a small silk wallpaper venture, Jardins en Fleurs has metamorphosed considerably over the past two years to include all sorts of objets décor, lamps, furniture, hand-painted silk and paper wall hangings.
With collections that are consistently praised and highlighted in Elle Décor, Home Accents Today, O, and Domino to name just a few, Jardins en Fleurs is the go-to line for the best of the best in Chinoiserie.
Chinoiserie (sheen-wah-zuh-ree) refers to a recurring theme in European artistic styles since the seventeenth century, which reflects Chinese art and is characterized by the use of fanciful imagery of an imaginary China.
To quote a distinguished debutante from West Palm Beach (who shall remain nameless) with impeccable taste: “Chinoiserie just makes everything feel a little cooler, don’t you think?”
Q; Many people ask: “Why did you name your company Jardins en Fleur?" (pron: Zhar-dans Ahn Flur)
From the French it literally translates to “Gardens in Flower.” That’s when gardens are at their pinnacle of beauty. And “gardens in flower” sounds so much better in French. N’est ce pas?
The inspiration for the collection came about from two friends discussing Choinoiserie--itself a French word (see above definition)--and exquisitely and painstakingly hand-painted silk wallpapers in particular. Many of these archival papers--most, in fact--contain botanical scenes redolent with blossoms and flora; birds and butterflies; garden follies like pagodas...Pretty things! Just like a garden in full bloom.
That, friends, is why we call our company Jardins en Fleur...Which is so much prettier than “Cactus Flower” or “Desert Landscape” and besides, we don’t know how to say that in French. It’s a little bit difficult to say at first. But with some practice, it has a nice ring to it and it certainly weeds out the meek.
